Clarkhill Self Catering Cottage

Tessa and Wink? Is that right I say and am met with a cheery wink of course, above the cacophony of barking dachshunds. How can such little dogs make so much noise? But, once they have had a good sniff, they scamper back to their cosy beds by the Aga. The two sisters moved here from Kent about 10 years ago to carve out ‘a good life’ for themselves having commissioned Jeremy Williams to build them a stunning neo-classical house. Its period pink stuccoed exterior belies an eco-efficiency which includes a geo-thermic heating system which means the girls are practically self-sufficient.
Wink is the gardener and apart from her colourful formal and wild flower garden she has an amazing vegetable garden, which provides all the raw ingredients for Tessa’s meals.

Having cooked for Dukes and Duchesses and house parties at Delphi, her repertoire of recipes is mouth-watering...Game pies, thyme trout terrine, lemon posset with a little sorbet made from their homemade cherry cassis? But their first love has always been horses and their little self-catering cottage is right next to their own modern purpose built stables, and they know everybody in the horsey world of course. So, if you would like a personal tour of Coolmore Stud or if you fancy a days hunting they can certainly organize that for you. Or you can visit or the Irish National stud which is only a little over an hour away in Kildare. Open all year round, a quirkly place to stay and one of Tipperary North Riding’s Hidden Gems.
