Valentines Day in IrelandEven as I write the headline it doesn’t 'ring' true, we are just not a romantic lot in the ‘hallmarked’ sense of the word in Ireland, unless it stamped on inside of a nice sparkly piece, that’s laden down with the right type of 'carats', not carrots? believe me there are lads here who still wouldn’t know the difference.
The most romantic Irish fellas usually get is a pathetic bunch of flowers from the petrol station on the way home from work and one of those afore mentioned cheesey cards, please? Listen up guys if you really want to impress the love of your life, be it the Mammy, wife, girlfriend or both? Order (in advance) a one of a kind, piece of floral perfection from Mes Fleurs, in Limerick. Having given up hinting years ago, I now book my own ‘surprise’ with his credit card of course, et voila Romance!
This year with Valentines Day falling midweek and it having been the longest most depressing January in years most couples are making a Valentines Weekend of it with lots of great offers all around the country with a posh dinner and 2 nights bed & breakfast from as little as €100 pps. Which is almost cheaper than staying at home... Or how about a bit of Touch, Pause and Engage? Now dont get carried away? we're talking rugby not romance but you could combine the two if you fancy a bit of the other next saturday night when Ireland play France in the RBS 6 Nations. My advice, if you are single and it's a bit of passion you are after, forget wearing red (unless its a Munster jersey) get yourself a green jersey and head for the nearest pub with a big screen. Even if you don’t know the first thing about rugby, you wont find a better concentration of fit fellas to throw your eye at this side of the Shannon. And while they are watching the action, you can be studying the form....good luck!
